Prior to last March, I worked in an office Monday through Friday. I would often joke with my boss about working from home and how much more productive I would be working from home opposed to coming into the office. Well, Covid-19 made that a reality that has last for nearly a year now. Ask me what are my thoughts now on working from home? Well, here we go… overkill. Although I have a dedicated office for working, I feel the need to spend time on the patio occasionally or drag my laptop to the dining room from time to time. Why? I would say it’s due to the lack of socialization. My line of work does require that I spend some time on the phones however I miss the the socialization that takes place in the office. I began missing those random conversations on elevators, in breakrooms, and even during what felt like planned restroom visits. I began to really miss those things once I began working from home. Luckily, we have began having more face to face interraction through zoom calls however there’s still no comparison.
The other downside is the fact that I had just moved into my home 2 weeks prior to transitioning to working from home for what we thought would be a very temporary amount of time. This actually meant that I was able to unpack a lot quicker than I normally would have which is good. The downside is the more time I spend at home, the more things I find myself desiring to conquer during my working hours. Balancing work and home has become a bit difficult for the simple fact that they are truly ‘one in the same now’. Working from home takes more discipline that I ever imagined. While enjoying the comforts of being at home when work is only an office or a laptop away can become a bit problematic. Let’s just say… my office hours have been extended! Are you working from home as a result of COVID-19? If so, what has your experience been for the last year? Just speak on it!
Working from the office. Fortunately, I work with a small group. I’m not sure if I would be very productive working from home for the simple reason, I live where there is limited internet service and the service that i have is very slow.
Hi Yolonda! If if wasn’t for the area you live in, would you give working from home a try? There is a lot of benefits such as the time you get back for not commuting in a vehicle day after day. What I miss most about working in the office was the faces I would see… my teammates.
I have been working from home since last March and I really like it. I am still able to get my work done and take care of home.
That’s good to hear Derecia! Considering your success with working from home, do you feel you could easily adjust to going back to the office full-time?
